Anti-War Voices DO Exist

Growing up through Elementary, Middle, and High School, I've had a very wide range of experiences, when it comes to my History courses.  Nonetheless, I will never forget my 11th grade History teacher, because he provided me with an outlook on wars like no other. The way he taught didn't "force" an opinion on me, he educated my class with different views on the concept of war, which lead each and every one of us to develop our own opinion. 


Overall, it is very rare to hear media and news on the anti-war point of view. Us, as a Country, are constantly used to hearing the media sources "flaunt" our military. Therefore, it was very shocking to read and dig deeper in this website that voices heavily about anti-war views. 



It can get tough living in a society where our country's media portrays such a false representation on what war really is and what goes on. Based off of this article, it suggests that America needs to make a change, and I believe a positive change would be to create stronger, more positive, and healthier bonds and alliances with other countries, especially Central Asia. The reason that Central Asia is so important is because they will no longer be in control of the soils. In all, I truly think it is unethical that there are little to no websites like this, unless you dig the web deeply.

In my opinion, I believe the most important value of free expression is Individual Self-Fulfillment. From the text, this term means " Free speech enables individuals to express themselves and thereby create their own identity and, in the process perhaps, find kindred spirits. Freedom of speech thus becomes an aspect of human dignity, human agency and autonomy".  In my own words, my short meaning of this value is that it lets people express their own opinions to find themselves. EOTO #2- Terms and Concepts: News Deserts

I learned a lot during the presentation about these new terms and concepts, but my concept about news deserts was the most interesting. A news desert refers to a community that is no longer covered by daily newspapers. The term itself emerged in the United States after hundreds of daily and weekly newspapers were closed in the 2000s. According to a study in 2018 by the UNC School of Media and Journalism , more than 1,300 communities in the U.S. are considered news deserts. Other communities may be covered by a ghost newspaper , which is a publication that has become a shadow of its former self. The total number of newspapers in the U.S. fell from 8,891 in 2004 to 7,112 in 2018, which is a decline of 1,779 newspapers, including more than 60 daily newspapers.  Of the remaining publications, an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 newspapers were considered ghost newspapers after scaling back their news coverage so much that they were unable to fully cover their communities.
